We have been around for two years!
Exactly two years ago Speaking Latino said “Hello World!” when I published my first post 6 Tips on How to Speak Spanish Like a Native. That day I officially became a blogger and started to share my 14 year “gringo” experience with Spanish. At some point in those 14 years I convinced a gorgeous Puerto Rican woman named Diana to join me. Our personal experiences highlight common confusions of every-day Spanish (see the post Is My Underwear Inside-Out or Is It Backwards?) and repeated bouts with culture shock, and confusions over the correct words for popcorn, gasoline, pen, bus, underwear, traffic jam and drinking straw.
Two years might not seem like much time, but we have achieved a lot in that time. Diana and I got married, we redesigned the website… and broke it! I pissed off a couple of readers (including new wife and sister-in-law) with our most controversial post ever: Should you study Spanish in Puerto Rico? and our 10 phrases not taught in school series went viral.
We constructed, expanded and continue to give away The Matrix and became independent Spanish slang book publishers. We have interviewed language experts from Puerto Rico and Costa Rica and opened the door to a couple of guest bloggers from the US, Spain and Colombia. I was voted one of the top Language Twitterers in 2012 (the 2013 vote is coming soon), expanded my Spanish slang library and traveled to the Western Caribbean in search for more slang. Diana and I share our passion for Spanish on Facebook, Twitter and now, the (relatively) new kid on the block, Pinterest. And more than 12,000 people visit us every month!
Thank you so much over these 24 months for your comments, rants, corrections and friendship. Please stay tuned for tons and tons of fun new stuff.
