In this issue of “Learn Spanish Quiz” we will put your Spanish translation capabilities to the test.
Look at the picture of this dish soap I found in the kitchenette at a hotel in Oregon and try to figure out the basic Spanish mistake. It is clear that the person in charge of the product labels of this manufacturer didn’t ask for help in translating the label to Spanish. Or even worse, the person plugged the phrase into Google Translate and dumped the result onto the label.
The name on the label that identifies the product reads: Liquid Manual Washing Detergent. How do you translate that to Spanish?
Obviously, the atrocious translation Detergente Que se lava Del Manual Liquido, is not the correct answer. The key points that need to be communicated are: 1) it is a detergent, 2) it is in a liquid form, and 3) can’t be used in a dishwasher machine. Taking all those elements in to consideration, here are some options:
1. Detergente Líquido para Lavar a Mano
2. Detergente Líquido para Lavar Platos a Mano
3. Jabón Líquido para Fregar
4. Jabón Líquido para Lavar Platos a Mano
