Now that you are settled into your routine with your new students, I wanted to take a moment to share all the resources available that you can use next month.
In addition to the core lessons, October is another month packed with cultural highlights to explore in your classrooms.
This month, you will wrap up Hispanic Heritage Month, discuss Indigenous Peoples, and perhaps squeeze in Day of the Dead. 🎉💀For Spanish 1, there is a fantastic mix of lesson plans that cover essential vocabulary like school supplies and classroom objects, plus activities to practice SER and ESTAR.
Moving on to Spanish 2, you’ll find lessons on stem-changing verbs and demonstrative adjectives. There is even a lesson featuring an authentic TV ad with Thalía, where students can learn clothing vocabulary. 👗📺
For Spanish 3, you will be focusing on the subjunctive mood and formal commands while exploring themes like exercise, nutrition, and emotions.
AP Spanish opens up a new unit “La Identidad” with activities that discuss the influence of language and culture on identity, along with scaffolded discussions on important themes like assimilation and cultural appropriation.
I’m super excited about all these resources and can’t wait to see how you incorporate them into your classes.
Here are 4 ways we can help you with your class prep this week:
1. Get the Hispanic Heritage Month Class Guide 📒
Hispanic Heritage Month is a must-do celebration for Spanish classes, but it always comes so early in the year when you are still gaining traction with your routines and students.
It’s especially challenging with novice students who still don’t have the language skills to do all the cool things you’d like. But don’t worry… you’ll have plenty of resources to keep your students engaged all month!
2. See how other teachers are celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month in their classrooms 🎉
You will get tons of ideas and inspiration from the comments and links that teachers have shared in this thread inside our World Language Teachers Lounge Facebook group.
