Learn Spanish: 4 Meanings of RIGHT in Spanish

Right in Spanish

There are several words/phrases that translate to RIGHT in Spanish: derecho, derecha, correcto, and tener razón. Of course, not all of them can be used interchangeably – that would just be too easy. Here are the Spanish word for RIGHT most common options right.

1. Right in Spanish: DERECHO

El derecho, used as a noun, means a legal right, or a law. For example, one could say, “Yo puedo decir lo que quiero, es mi derecho.” Which means “I can say what I want, it’s my right.” El derecho can also be used as a term for law, as in “facultad de derecho” or “school of law.”

2. Right in Spanish: DERECHA

Derecho vs derecha, used as an adjective, means right, as in the direction. However, be careful if you are giving directions– derecho means “straight” while derecha means “right”. You can only used the masculine derecho to mean “right” when altering a masculine noun, such as “el pie derecho,” or “the right foot.”

3. Right in Spanish: CORRECTO

Correcto or correcta means “right” as in “correct”. For example, “tu respuesta es correcta” means “your answer is correct.”

4. Right in Spanish: TENER RAZÓN

Tener razón is a verb phrase that means “to be right/correct”. For example, “Tu tienes razón,” means “you are right.”

Can you think of any other words that mean right?
