Items to Create a Spanish Classroom Cultural Corner

A cultural corner is one of my favorite classroom decoration ideas. A cultural corner is a small space (shelf, table, etc.) in your classroom where you display cultural items from the Spanish-speaking world.

My sister has a growing space in her classroom with items she collected from her trips. When I travel to a Spanish-speaking country, she always asks me to bring something small for her collection. Even her students have collaborated with some items.

A chullo from Peru, a mate from Argentina, Catrinas from Mexico, a Puerto Rican flag or a shell from the Camino de Santiago (Burgos) are some examples of the items she displays in her special corner.

Students love to see, touch and learn from these items. Each one has a story to share and triggers some interesting conversations.

But if you can’t travel to a Spanish-speaking country or you want to start a cultural corner right now there are plenty of options that you can buy online.
