In some regions, 'turco' is a colloquial term for individuals of Middle Eastern descent, particularly those from Lebanon, Syria, and Turkey. The term originated when a large number of immigrants came to Latin America from the Ottoman Empire. Due to a misunderstanding, locals started calling them 'Turcos' (Turkish) regardless of their actual nationality.
