Lesson Plan – Impersonal SE – Carnivals –Students learn about the Carnivals in Spanish speaking countries with text and two videos of the carnivals from Bolivia and Spain. They also learn about the Impersonal SE by completing a grammar chart and a written practice. Finally, students do an oral presentation using the Impersonal SE of the two carnivals based on information and images provided in the lesson plan.
Objectives
- Students can describe and write the general characteristics of Carnival in a few different countries, especially by using impersonal sentence structures.
- Students can describe and write a basic history of Carnival.
- Students can answer questions about what people do in certain countries using impersonal sentences with “se.”
- Students can work with a partner in order to organize and prepare an oral presentation together.
- Students can understand why impersonal statements are used in situations describing general events or facts.
- Students can understand the use of personal statements and can interpret why it is being used, namely to describe general events or facts.
- Students can extract information from a reading to determine its importance and prepare selected information to present to an audience.

- Adquirir vocabulario al respecto de las fiestas tradicionales (el carnaval)
De qué se trata
La primera parte de la clase tiene por objeto introducir vocabulario al respecto del carnaval, mediante un texto que explica sus orígenes históricos. Tras ver dos breves videos con imágenes de los carnavales de Oruro (Bolivia) y Cádiz (España) respectivamente, los alumnos hacen suposiciones sobre cómo se celebran. A continuación se introducen las oraciones impersonales con «se», que se usarán en la última actividad, de carácter oral: divididos en dos grupos, se facilita a cada uno información sobre uno de los carnavales, que habrá de presentar oralmente.
