Spanish Language Words for HOLE

A few days ago, I sat down at my favorite Italian place in South Beach. It’s a locals place where the prices are reasonable and the food amazing. Many of the staff are Italian and speak Spanish. And being Miami, lots of other people speak Spanish too. Almost more than English in some areas.

The chef (a native Italian) came out to the tables for some undefined reason when he saw friends seated near me. He quickly began to ask a question in Spanish: ¿Como se escribe hoyo en español? (How do you spell hole in Spanish?).

The clueless native Spanish-speaking lady next to me responded: No se usa hoyo en español. Se dice agujero. (Hoyo is not used in Spanish. You say agujero.) Her statement was completely incorrect. While in her country, probably Argentina from her accent, agujero is the typical word, other countries use hueco (other meanings of hueco here) or hoyo instead. This is just another example of how diverse the Spanish language is and how even native speakers can be confused by its changes from country to country.

Any other ways to say HOLE in Spanish (for you pervs, try to keep it clean)? Leave other words in the comments, along with the country it’s used.
