Can you believe we’re almost two months into 2020 already? Can you believe your 2nd semester of teaching already began? Or perhaps, can you believe it’s already been 15 years since your 1st year teaching?
There’s one thing we know from all the questions we get… every world language teacher has questions, doubts, concerns. No matter how long they’ve been teaching.
One reason we know that to be true among language teachers is isolation. There are lots of Math teachers in every school, English teachers and Science teachers. But language teachers often don’t have that many peers, thus we see questions like this all the time:
• How many times a week do you see your (Spanish, French, German, etc.) students?
• Has anyone taught an overload schedule (no planning period) at the high school level? I have a say in the matter, but my school is asking if I would be comfortable with taking on an extra class instead of a planning period next year.
• Just out of curiosity, how many class preps do you have? And if you have more than four, how do you manage to keep your sanity?
So we’ve decided to put together the 1st Annual Survey for World Language Teachers to answer all these kinds of questions. Just to know what other teachers are doing, how large their class sizes are, the best ways they are finding to do things.
All these questions that leave us each wishing we had benchmarks to make decisions.
The goal of the survey is to help foster your confidence, career growth and teaching.
