The Most Common Argentine Spanish Verbs
Argentine Spanish verbs are different from verbs used in other Spanish speaking countries. Not only are they conjugated differently but the actual words used differ from other countries.
If you are looking to learn Argentine Spanish these are some of the first words you should learn:
laburar:
to work (other countries use trabajar)
bancarse:
1. to put up with or tolerate
2. to wait for
3. to finance or to support financially
caber:
to fit someone perfectly, to suit someone
Te re-cabe esa remera.
coimear:
to bribe
¿Tenés 100 mangos para coimear la cana?
dar bola:
to pay attention to or to listen
Fui a ver a Fabián en el boliche pero no me dio bola.
dar bronca:
to piss someone off, make them mad
Me dio bronca escuchar a Gustavo hablar así de Gabriela.
darle pelota: (same as dar bola above)
to pay attention to or to listen
Fui a ver a Fabián en el boliche pero no me dio pelota.
enquilombar:
to screw up, to mess up
Con los cacerolazos Barrio Norte está completamente enquilombado. No vayas.
hincharse las pelotas:
to bug, annoy, bother
No me hinches las pelotas otra vez, suenas igual a mi vieja.
ponerse las pilas:
to get going, get moving
Ponete las pilas y buscá un laburo.
trasnochar:
to come home after the sun comes up, from a night of partying
Llevo toda la semana trasnochando.
zafar:
to just squeeze by, squeak by, get out of a sticky situation
La prueba de la facu me tenía preocupado pero zafé cuando se cortó la luz en toda la ciudad.
Other Argentine Spanish Verbs
hacer bolsa a alguien - to completely destroy someone, physically or otherwise
hacerse el boludo - to play dumb, pretend you don't know what's going on
hacerse la pelicula - to over-think or obsess about something
ir como piña - to fit well with
levantar - to conquer a member of the opposite sex
mandar cualquiera - to act without thinking
