In Spanish the verb ESTAR is one of the most common verbs used. For this reason it is one of the first to learn. The same is true for Argentine Spanish where ESTAR is part of over 30 different verb phrases:

1. estar a pleno - to be utterly and completely focused on someone or something
2. estar al divino botón - 1) to not have a use, without a function.2) to have nothing to do
3. estar al pedo - to be hanging out, wasting time, farting around
4. estar alzado - to be horny
5. estar arruinado - literally "to be ruined" meaning to look older than your age, worn out or tired
6. estar careta - to be sober, or not high, for a drug user
7. estar cebado - to be extremely interested in something
8. estar chupado - to be drunk
9. estar con el bombo - to be pregnant
10. estar con todas las pilas - ready and raring to go
11. estar copado con - to be fascinated with, hooked on
12. estar curtido - to be experienced
13. estar dado vuelta - wasted, drunk
14. estar del otro lado - to be drunk
15. estar de onda - to be trendy or fashionable
16. estar de pirata - 1) to go out trolling for women with the intention of cheating on your wife/girlfriend. 2) to secretly date a woman, hiding it from your wife
17. estar de rechupete - to be tasty (food)
18. estar duro - to be on a drug high
19. estar embolado - to be bored
20. estar en cana - to be in jail
21. estar en el horno - to be in a complicated, difficult situation
22. estar en la onda - to be in the loop, in the know
23. estar en pelotas - to be clueless, to have no idea
24. estar fogueado - to have experience
25. estar guardado - literally "to be put away", to be in jail
26. estar hecho - to be stuffed from eating
27. estar hecho un langa - to be extremely confident, a seductor
28. estar limado - to be burned out
29. estar meado por los gatos - to be covered in bad luck, cursed
30. estar metido - to be in love
31. estar pachucha - to be run down, sad, not feel well
32. estar paja - to be lazy
33. estar para chuparse los dedos - to be tasty, food
34. estar para el diván - to be crazy
35. estar un kilo (y dos pancitos) - to be great, excellent, or even better than excellent
